How the Covid-19 Pandemic is Changing the Way We Work in 2021

by Jacob Blanca
A lot of people and business’ have changed the way they work during the Covid-19 Pandemic and most likely for the foreseeable future.  Many businesses closed their doors earlier this year and moved their employees to operate remotely from  because of worries over health and safety. And while working remotely from home has had both pro’s and con’s, it has also shown itself as a successful business concept in almost every consumer segment.Demand for offices are declining to a harmful degree, as you may have noticed many ‘For Lease’ signs amongst commercial and office  building space.  When people were informed in February and March 2020 that they were going to pack their desks and work remotely, everyone thought it would take many weeks. A year on, though many businesses are doing remote work, with the potential for large cost reductions, a sustainable model. If employees can keep productivity from far down, companies can pay less on office space. This is what more businesses are really going to do. According to a survey carried out by KPMG, 68 percent of big business CEOs currently expect to reduce their office space. And this is not just a pandemic reaction.  The report, which includes, in the majority, businesses with an annual turnover of more than $1 billion, shows that while the vaccine arrives rapidly and the pandemic is over, remote employment arrangements are very much at stake. Many enterprises are actually planning to transform money into robotics and new technologies to ensure a remote job setup is maintained. This is more than possible in the absence of costly office rentals.Remote work for many company owners and workers in Australia and around the world, what most started as an involuntary and short-term response to this current environment is a permanent consideration now. Some have had a positive effect on this modern job style and have opened doors to a number of possibilities which were not available before. Other problems have resulted in a dispersed squad of remote personnel becoming insolvable with video calls, remote inspections or simulated team meetings also worth one week on the calendar. Take Australias leading telco for example. Telstra receives from 50 million calls in 2016 have dropped to 15 million annually in 2020, enabling its call center operations to be scaled down and carried back into Australia. It plans to take all its call centres, and allow more workers to be employed from home, back to Australia in the next 18 months. CEO Andy Penn explains “We have reduced the volume of calls by eliminating a lot of the annoyances that people would have had”“We are helping people get more out of the technology rather than reporting a fault”“This has given us the opportunity to move all of our call centre staff onshore. We will have this completed within the next 18 months.” he continues.Mr. Penn said that Telstra is changing to “site agnostics” by granting the call center and office workers to operate from home should they desire.Wherever your business is on this compass, it is necessary to navigate from a distance. According to the 2020 Remote Job Poll of Employment Hero, 84% of Australians are at home and 92% will do so on a daily basis should they be able to do so. We may then confidently conclude that the remote alternative is an expectation of employees. As employer, it is necessary to take this into account and make remote employees otherwise you will see best talent going out to an organization that is more mobile. So, exactly what’s remote work? Remote work is a way of working in which workers can work beyond the usual workplace setting even within 9-5 hours of work. It means inspiring the staff to make the right choice while they are employed – whether this is a home workplace, a co-working area or a nearby coffee shop. The idea that the job will effectively be done without staff being attached to a particular place drives a remote work strategy.  To be remote means that an employee does not go to his office, does not have a dedicated work desk or is able to complete tasks and achieve his/her goals at a certain position. This could improve employee satisfaction, decrease overall costs and a happy, more profitable team for an employer – but more of the advantages of a remote solution later.  There’s no one size fits all option when it comes to remote operation. Remote job means different things in different remote businesses. It is necessary to note. It is your job as an employer to create your own concept of remote work which follows the specific framework, priorities and objectives of your organization. Not only can businesses save money from remote jobs by downsized offices, it also opens up their talent pool. Any corporation can recruit people from anywhere in the world with a remote employee. The movement also encourages businesses to leave the bigger and more costly cities and set up shops that are cheaper.  However, it is an alarm to analysts that so many big corporations intend to dump the space of offices. And if the office building is too premature to be declared dead, it is fair to recognize the demand changes in a highly significant way.So if you have made the decision to close up office and have everyone work remotely from home on zoom meetings, wherever you or your colleagues relocate, they take time away from their normal business practices, so it always pays to plan ahead and sometimes it is always cheaper to recruit professional office removalists to take a lot of the stress of you and your staff. Such companies will help you to develop an attack strategy, prepare your company equipment and move your products to your new premises physically. You will also help migrate your workforce when you move a long distance from your current location. Since the movers are qualified in the relocation of the equipment and new office space, the use of them reduces the chance of injury. That security is important when you step into your new job to retain efficiency.
